31 Mar CONVOCATORIA INTERNACIONAL DE ARTE POSTAL “600 AÑOS DE PRESENCIA GITANA EN LA PENÍNSULA IBÉRICA”

El Instituto de Cultura Gitana se complace en anunciar una convocatoria internacional de Arte Postal para conmemorar los 600 años de la llegada del Pueblo Gitano a la Península Ibérica, un hito histórico que marca seis siglos de contribución cultural, artística y social a la construcción de nuestra sociedad diversa.

¿QUÉ ES EL ARTE POSTAL?
El Arte Postal, también conocido como Mail Art, es una forma de expresión artística que utiliza el correo postal como medio de difusión y el sobre o postal como soporte creativo. Este movimiento artístico, surgido en la década de 1960, se caracteriza por su naturaleza democrática y anticomercial, permitiendo que artistas de todo el mundo intercambien obras de arte a través del sistema postal tradicional. El Arte Postal representa una red internacional de creatividad que trasciende fronteras y convenciones artísticas tradicionales.

SOBRE EL INSTITUTO DE CULTURA GITANA
El Instituto de Cultura Gitana es una fundación pública estatal que tiene como objetivo el desarrollo y la promoción de la historia, la cultura y la lengua gitanas, así como la difusión de su conocimiento y reconocimiento a través de estudios, investigaciones y publicaciones. Desde su creación, el Instituto ha sido un pilar fundamental en la visibilización y puesta en valor del patrimonio cultural gitano, trabajando activamente en la lucha contra la discriminación y en favor de la igualdad.

8 DE ABRIL: DÍA INTERNACIONAL DEL PUEBLO GITANO
La elección del 8 de abril de 2025 como fecha de apertura de esta convocatoria no es casual. El Día Internacional del Pueblo Gitano conmemora el Primer Congreso Mundial Romaní celebrado en Londres en 1971, donde se instituyeron los símbolos de la identidad gitana: la bandera y el himno “Gelem Gelem”. Esta fecha representa un momento de reconocimiento internacional de la cultura gitana y su contribución a la diversidad cultural mundial. En este día se realizan ceremonias del río, donde se lanzan pétalos de flores al agua como símbolo de libertad y remembranza de las víctimas gitanas durante el Holocausto.

600 AÑOS DE HISTORIA Y PRESENCIA
En 2025 se cumplen 600 años desde la primera documentación histórica de la presencia gitana en la Península Ibérica, concretamente a través del salvoconducto otorgado por el rey Alfonso V de Aragón al “Conde Juan de Egipto Menor” en 1425. Este aniversario representa una oportunidad única para reflexionar sobre seis siglos de historia compartida, de contribuciones culturales y de resistencia. El pueblo gitano ha enriquecido de manera fundamental el patrimonio cultural peninsular, especialmente en ámbitos como la música, el arte y la lengua, siendo el flamenco uno de sus legados más universales.

Esta convocatoria se dirige a toda la comunidad internacional, con especial énfasis en:

Postal Art, also known as Mail Art, is a form of artistic expression that uses postal mail as a means of dissemination, with the envelope or postcard as a creative medium. This artistic movement, which emerged in the 1960s, is characterized by its democratic and non-commercial nature, allowing artists from around the world to exchange works of art through the traditional postal system. Postal Art represents an international network of creativity that transcends borders and traditional artistic conventions.

ABOUT THE GYPSY CULTURE INSTITUTE
The Gitano Culture Institute is a state public foundation aimed at developing and promoting the history, culture, and language of the Gypsy people, as well as disseminating their knowledge and recognition through studies, research, and publications. Since its establishment, the Institute has been a fundamental pillar in highlighting and valuing Gypsy cultural heritage, actively working against discrimination and in favor of equality.

APRIL 8: INTERNATIONAL GYPSY DAY
The choice of April 8, 2025, as the opening date for this call is not casual. International Gypsy Day commemorates the First Romani World Congress held in London in 1971, where the symbols of Gypsy identity were established: the flag and the anthem “Gelem Gelem.” This date represents a moment of international recognition of Gypsy culture and its contribution to global cultural diversity. On this day, river ceremonies are held, where flower petals are thrown into the water as a symbol of freedom and remembrance of Gypsy victims during the Holocaust.
